MEET LOTTE

Lotte Verstappen is a freelance illustrator and artist based in Oisterwijk, the Netherlands. After high school she studied at AKV St. Joost School of Art & Design.

Lotte loves to create digital illustrations which speak to women all over the world. The images are both feminine and empowering. With a good sence of detail she makes scenes that tell you a little story. Inspired by strong and bold women, botanical life, interior, fashion and beautiful earthly or vibrant colors. She is always watching the people and world around her to find the inspiration she needs for her illustrations. People on the streets in beautiful clothes, cool vintage stuff on flee markets, pretty things in a shop window. There is so much to discover if you just stop, take a deep breath and take look around…

Art
The abstract artwork from Lotte is painted by hand. Not only she uses traditional painting supplies, she also searches for all kinds of objects with wich she creates interesting marks and strokes. Her paintings are inspired by the human psyche. She is very interested in the conscious and subconscious mind. How they are involved in the way we behave and develop ourselves. Why do we do the things we do? What shapes us? What is it that makes us human?
In her paintings Lotte explores the human mind. She translates her subjects into compositions. There’s an interplay between shapes, gradations, compositions. lines, hues, textures, colours and sizes. Always abstract, so the viewer can make up it’s own story.
